Aberdeen town guide
Aberdeen feels and looks different from any other British city as it is built of grey granite. A vibrant entertainment scene, with substantial beach and promenade, set on the east coast of Scotland. It is the third largest city in Scotland, looking out to the North Sea and Scandinavia.
Wander round the cobbled streets and the university campus.
A hire car for exploring this area is essential. The Victorian heritage trail will take in Balmoral Castle and other places visited by Queen Victoria, who travelled widely over the area. Generations of the Royal family have since used Balmoral for their summer retreat from London. See them at the Highland games at the Braemar Gathering.
Take the Castle Trail for some of Scotland's finest castles and gardens. A visit to the Cairngorms is a must summer or winter. At the Museum of Scottish lighthouses at Fraserburgh, you can go to the top of Scotland's oldest lighthouse.
