Glasgow is one of Britain's finest Victorian cities. As Scotland's largest city, it is one of the most vibrant and diverse. Glasgow is famously friendly, upfront and full of personality.
It is the largest retail centre in the U.K. Take a trip on the Clyde waterbus to Braehead Shopping Centre or the award winning Clydebuilt Maritime Museum.
Charles Rennie Mackintosh has many connections with the city, he was a truly original architect and designer, whose masterpiece is the Glasgow school of Art.
Hire a car to visit the many beautiful places around Glasgow. The Mull of Kintyre, made famous by the Paul Macartney song, is within easy driving distance, as are The Trossocks. Dumfries and Galloway have lots of spectacular golf courses both inland and on the coast. Sail over to some of the small islands just off the west coast such as Arran or Islay.
You could also go into the outer estuary from Greenock for magnificent seaboard scenery. Travel on the Waverley Paddle steamer - the only remaining sea-going paddle steamer in the world, built in 1947.
